Hampstead Heath — Beginners trail run

An scenic introduction to trail running.

Our beginners trail run is a 6.5km (4 mile) loop around Hampstead Heath.

This run is aimed at people who can already run a 5km in around 30 minutes, but would like to integrate more varied terrain and hills into their runs.

We will run at an average pace of 6:30-7:00min/km (10:30-11:00min/miles). There are a number of hills which we will walk up as a group.

The total run time will be approximately 50 minutes.

We finish the run at Parliament Hill Cafe for a quick drink, you are welcome to join, go home or run another lap!


The run starts by Gospel Oak Station at the Parliament Hill Lido. We will make our way into the Heath turning left past the Athletics track and then heading North West winding our way through some nice trails until we hit Kenwood House.

We turn back and head South running past loads of ponds and finishing with a climb up and down Parliament Hill.

What to bring?


We won't have a bag drop, so only bring what you are going to run with. Water will be available at the end of the run.


You're normal running shoes will be fine for this run, although if it's been raining they will get muddy!


This route is dog friendly.


The closest station to the start is Gospel Oak Overground Station. The closest tube station is Tufnell Park (15 minute walk).

Please plan to arrive for 9:50 and check transport disruption before you set off.
